According to a research and study made by the Boston University’s Department of World Languages & Literatures, China is one of the world’s oldest and richest continuous cultures, lasting over 5000 years old. China is the most populous nation in the world, with 1.28 billion people. One fifth of the earth speaks chinese. Mandarin is the mother tongue of over 873 million people making it the most widely spoken first language in the world.

According to the President of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia, Gong Bencai, there are around 1000 Chinese companies operating in Indonesia, and about 50 % of them are investing in Java. China is the second largest economy in the world, thus, this further expresses the importance of learning Mandarin in Indonesia.
